engine vibration? S60 2001

Hi all,

My MY01 S60 is equipped with the 2.4 engine (168 hp, US spec) and manual transmission. When accelerating, the engine produces vibration between 1,000 and 1,200 RPM that is strong enough to cause other parts of the car, mainly the exhaust system and sunroof, to resonate. The noises were not present when the car was new, but gradually developed over the first six months/4,000 miles of service.

In attempting to quiet the car, the service tech has replaced a section of the exhaust system (flex pipe), the heat shield and the sunroof rails. The car is quieter than before, but the sunroof, when closed, still buzzes under the specified conditions.

Is this much vibration normal for the five cylinder engine? Have others experienced this problem? It seems the tech has been treating the symptoms but not the source of the problem, engine vibration. Comments?

Thanks, Richard
