Car has trouble starting and idling. . .sometimes!!?? 850 1993

Goodness gracious, I'm confused! First of all, I live in Phoenix, AZ, so part of this problem may be heat related. I first noticed this problem last August when the weather was hot, but things were beginnig to cool down. It would only occur when the air conditioning was on. Here's the problem: the car will idle up and down, up and down, constantly, sometimes shutting the engine completely off. If the car is warmed up, it won't start until it has been cooled down. Now, this problem stopped when the winter months hit. Now that things are starting to warm up, the problem is reoccuring. In fact, today was the first day we've used the air conditioning in months and this is the first time the problem has come back in months. I've shut off the air conditioning and the problem still continues though, so I don't know how closely related this problem is related to the a/c. When this problem was happening months ago, it would only happen every couple of weeks or so and then quit for a while. Could it be the FPR? I've heard that this may be the problem.
