Can oil damage spare tire? 850 1994

Had a half full quart of Mobil 1 in my spare tire wheel well of my '94 855 Turbo. It's probably been there for about a month.

Went to put take off my winter tires and put on my good ones this weekend to discover that all of the oil had leaked into my spare tire well. Haven't cleaned it up yet, think I will pick up some of that soak-up stuff at the autoparts store, dump it in and then shop-vac it out when it's all soaked up.

Bigger question is if that oil could have caused any damage to the spare tire? Any chemists out there with some good factual reasoning?

Thanks.

Jason
