No washer on the drain plug? 850

Hi there,

I used to let my mechanic (who is an independent Volvo specialist) did the oil change. Last weekend, I did the oil change myself for the first time. To my surprise, I did not see any washer on the drain plug (I did try to fish it in the drain pan), and it didn't seem to have any leakage either. I still finish the oil change and put the plug back without a washer. Have anyone seen this before? Is that a real concern? (The funny thing is that a charge for a new washer showed up everytime on my oil change invoice)

thanx,

CC
