Throttle Body Problems S80 1999

What physically malfunctions within the unit to trigger the codes in the Vadis PC? My big concern is that changing this unit may be repairing a symptom versus the actual root cause of the problem. The car running extremely rough at idle but above 1000 rpm the engine smoothed out. While the warning was displayed in the car, and the idle problem was apparant, acceleration was sluggish - cruise would not function. Shutting the car off and restarting would eliminate the idle problem but an emmission system warning was logged.

The dealer stated that three different codes were logged requiring replacement of throttle body.

Last month the Air Mass Flow valve required replacement after an emmision fault warning.

Any thoughts?
