Throttle Body Problems S80 1999

Spoke with Volvo Customer Service today and was told the throttle body was redesigned and incorporated through normal production line incorporation. The part removed from my car is no longer available and the replacement part requires a software download to ensure proper functioning of the new unit. I asked for a more technical explanation be sent to my local dealer. Being an aerospace engineer working on advance fly by wire systems, I need something more than my local service guy could provide. I hope the new part is a redesign centered around a design flaw with the earlier version. This would alleviate my concern that I could have an expensive repeat down the road. If I get a viable explanation of the redesign and failure mode of the older style throttle body unit, I will pass it on.

thanks

John
