Engine Surging on start-up 850

Hi everyone, you've been helpful with my other questions that I've got another one for you, I figure you could all use something to think about. All right...

Recently, my car, a '94 854 (140,000miles) has been acting a little strange. It's been idling a little rough (car shakes, very abnormal), and upon start up a few times the engine surged from 1000-2000, 2000-1500,1500-2000 (or something like that) Above idle it runs fine, no problems, I don't feel a loss of power or anything. Another symptom, that may be completely related (it went away with a new tank of gas) was the foul sulfur smell. This happened once previously when the car was my mom's, and she can't remember exactly what volvo did to fix it, but she says it "might" have had to do with something being too rich. Any help is greatly appreciated. I plan on autocrossing it this sunday, so hopefully I can get it running smooth before that. It's a shame that my new koni adjustables and IPD springs are going in on tuesday...oh well.

Thank You,
Matt.
