Bilsteins: do they break in? 850

Just installed Bilstein sport shocks and struts in my '96 855 turbo. They have about 6000 km. on them to date and I find them to be great on the highway, (handling at speed is vastly improved), but in the city with our crappy roads, (Winnipeg Canada), I find them too harsh. Do these things soften up at all, or am I stuck getting my butt kicked by these things? If they don't change much, I'm strongly considering pulling them and going to OEM R shocks and struts. Any experience would be appreciated. Would have tested them on another car, but the aftermarket crowd for Volvos is really small here. Noone else had them, so I bought them based on posts here, (haven't had bad luck with brickboard advice yet).

Thanks in advance,

Perry '96 855 turbo. Bilsteins, major stereo upgrade and sound deadening, Amsoil air filter, side markers and e-code headlights.
