Rear Brakes Premature Wear V70-XC70 1999

I've read in other posts about fast wearing rear brake pads. I had my first brake job at 20K (front and rear). I had to have the rears replaced a second time at 31K. I then had to have a front and rear brake job again at 38K. Although I could accept that the fronts don't last more than 18K, the rears seem to be on a downward trend, 21k, 11k, 7k...... I'm the original owner, lived in the same place, same driving patterns. What gives? Volvo dealer checked with their field specialist and they reported no known problems that would contribute to premature wear. I'm not convinced they've really explored this and believe there might be another problem that is rapidly degrading the life of the rear brakes. Any others out there with the same experience? Suggestions?
