best cheap codes scanner? 850

Thanks for the info. I spent about six hours the other night researching the web regarding codes scanners and came to the same conclusion. Apparently, without a terribly expensive reader I will not be able to read the propietary Volvo codes anyway. I tried the terminal in my car and was able to get two codes from slot 2 (ecu memory loss and rich or lean fuel mixture at idle). I don't know what is causing the memory loss (YIKES!) but the fuel mixture may be a leak in my exhaust near the manifold. I also tried to read the 6 slot but could not get any response, not even the 111 code. Any ideas?
