What the heck is this scary grinding noise and feeling, especially when brakes are hot? 850 1997

I rarely drive my wife's GLT. My wife said a couple of times over the last 6 months that the brakes seemed funny. I knew it had a slightly warped front rotor from the last brake job so of course I have been ignoring my wife's complaints figuring it was just the warped rotor. However I took it on a trip with some long downhills and once the brakes heated up it did it nearly constantly when applying the brakes, scaring the heck out of me. It is a very loud, and scary feeling, grinding noise. You can feel vibration through the steering wheel also, although it is much faster (higher frequency) than the warped rotor feeling. It is also much faster and louder than the ABS pulsing. When the brakes are hot it doesn't take much pedal pressure to start the noise and feeling.

I was delaying the work to replace the rotors and pads because they only have a couple of thousand miles on them, but now I am doing them sooner. An inspection reveals nearly new pads and rotor. I am concerned that a rotor and pad replacement will not fix this other problem, whatever it is. Any suggestions? BTW, I did the last brake job and used a torque wrench for the caliper bolts, etc.
Thanks.
