Shock/Spring Replacement C70 1999

My car is starting to ride a bit differently ('99 C70 with 75,000 miles) and I figure it might finally be time for a spring and shock upgrade. I am pretty sure I will go with the IPD springs and Bilstein shocks as it isn't too much of a lowering and from what I hear doesn't hurt ride comfort very much while still improving handling. I was wondering at what mileage it is normal to replace springs and shocks and if anybody had other ideas for springs or shocks. I don't mind a firm ride but can't lower it too much (more than 1 to 1 1/2" would put me in danger of scraping on a few speed bumps around here) nor do I want to lose my fillings. However, I don't want to feel the whole car list like it does through some corners. I know, I have to give up some of one for some of the other, but this is the place to ask. Thanks ahead of time for any advice.
Sincerely,
Bret M. Binder
