Can I read codes in a 97 850? 850

'93-'95 have on board dianostic modules that you can read the blinking lights to find any recorded faults. You just have to know which socket is for which system. Like A7 is for dashboard, A6-ignition, A2-fuel system and so on. This manual interface is also used to reset the service light.

Starting in '96 a OBD-II scan tool is required. I understand that you can even connect some to a PC or Palm Pilot to get greater detail and reset codes. Of course the bad news is scan tools start about $150 (US).

So to read your codes on your '97 you'll either need to get a scan tool (search archives for advice on one) or go to dealer.
