Question about towing. 850 1995

I have to say that I was surprised to see in the owner's manual what the towing capacity of my '95 855t is. I don't have the book in front of me know but I think it's around 3,000lbs.

I'll never get close to that but I have a question about towing my trials bike and trailer, a combined weight of about 500lbs plus my gear in the car which is about another 100.

The manual recommends the transmission be used in the "3" position. I find that cruising at 70 puts the rpm in the range of 3000-3500 which doesn't seem to be the thing to do for my 7-hour (one way) trip.

Can anyone tell me if towing this light load, tranny in "D" and staying out of boost for long periods will harm the tranny, the cat or the turbo?

I'll be running Mobil 1 10W30, have flushed the transmission and of course use premium gas.

Thanks,
--
