Brakes, Pollen Filter, lightbulb S40-V40 2001

Recently I took my 2001 S40 in for 15K mil service. I came out with alot extra repairs:

1. Rear brakes have less that 1mm left on them $175
2. Pollen filter $50
3. Front head light bulb $14
4. Vanity mirror bulb $10

I knew that Volvo had a problem with premature expirations of bulbs and brakes, but I was told that these problems had been resolved with the 2001's. What a bunch of BULL!

I haven't done the brakes yet. I don't feel I should have to pay for the replacement of products Volvo has admitted to be defective. Has anyone had success in getting the warranty to cover brakes after the 12months?

Has anyone else had to have their pollen filters replaced in the first year of owning car? I live in LA , no dust problems.
