Randell,
You have a common problem with the 850/V70 line. It's not normal to have to recharge, unless you have a leak. Unfortunately, leaks in these models is common because of defective materials that get corroded from environmental pollution and pollen. Your evaporator is most likely leaking.
VOLVO refuses to own the problem and it has cost many 850/V70 owners lots of money for repairs.
The EVAP sits buried under your dashboard and is very expensive to replace. The cost is usually $1,000+, because the whole dash must be removed. Not to mention the steering wheel and airbags. It's very labor intensive.
Is the manufacturers warrenty still in effect? If so, get to the dealer and demand that it be repaired, not just charged. You will find TOO MANY responses on this board about this problem from owners who are fed-up. Remember, if you have the EVAP replaced, be sure that a HEPA filter kit is fitted so that impurities can be filter away from the new parts.
Many 850/V70 owners just recharge (which is relatively cheap if you do it yourself) the system. A recharge might last you through the summer, but it will eventually leak out again.
Good luck....
