Halfshaft support bearing 850 1996

Replaced the right halfshaft on my nonturbo 850 last night, to get rid of a terrible shake on acceleration. Went pretty well EXCEPT I think the support bearing cap may be broken. Has anyone done this job and remembers the bering cap. The cap portion cradles the bearing nicely, with ridges on both sides. But the portion bolted to the engine only has a risge on the inner side, and none on the outer. Wouldn't this allow the bearing lateral play that ultimately would ruin it?
