I highly doubt that he's right. We were told that those "great" alarm remotes (and system) was made in the US, like Texas but that could also be incorrect.
At any rate, although I know that they aren't cheap, if you buy it from a dealer and he gives you the wrong part by accident, he'll just exchange it for the correct part and you'll be done. Being as easy as it is, we even will do the programming thing on those older cars like yours for free as it only takes seconds and for us, it's better for public relations. '98s on up are another matter however.
