45K Maint. S70 1998

Patrick,

Sorry, I'm not trying to offend you in any ways, but why do you sound like you are expecting something wrong with your 1998 S70 @ the 45k service ? ... I'll taking my S70 in for its 96k oil & filter change + major maintainance service next week. I never had anything wrong with my 1998 S70 in all of the previous maintainance services, except for once, where they found that my engine mount had broke, but it was replaced under warranty. I spend $400 Cdn for my 48k service, and they didn't find anything wrong with my S70. Only replace items ( Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, OEM oil filter, Volvo ATF, pollen filter, front & rear brake pads, OEM spark plugs, tune-up, replace a couple of dash light bulbs, etc .... ).

Sorry, maybe I just don't get what is your frustration is about @ your 45k service ! ... ( Touch wood ), my S70 has been mostly trouble-free since my parents brought it for me in May 1997. The only major problems I had w/ my S70 was the evaporator, a dead battery, and my CD changer. Of course, the common problem of the headlight bulbs going out can sometime drive me insane, but I am just waiting for PIAA to release a H7 model for their Super Plasma GT bulbs. My S70 spends more time in my garage, been detailed or/ at my local performance shops, getting something done to it, than @ my local Volvo service department, but that doesn't mean I skipped any of the reg, maintainance that is recommended by Volvo.

Also, I may be wrong, but you don't sound too happy with your S70, in terms of its reliability. The only regret buying a S70 is that I wish I had brought the GLT or even the T5 model instead, as I sometime find my GLE underpower, & that Volvo should have added more luxury features like a 6-cylinder engine, auto. dimming rearview mirrors, HID, reversing sensors, electronic rear sunshade, a much better sound system like Bose, etc ...

I will always be a Volvo fan, but I won't buy another Volvo until they put a 6-cylinders engine, more luxury features in their car, and a sedan that look like the S70. Sorry, I just cannot stand looking at the S60 & S80 trunk, to me, it looks like those Chinese coffin during those old days. The only Volvo that still have a decent shape that I would buy today is the S40, C70 coupe, the C70 convertible, and the coming XC90 SUV. I also like the new V70 and XC shape, but I just can't see myself driving one of those, until I got kids that I got to drive them to golf or hockey practice.
