850's ECU 850

Hello, board.
I am looking for a used ECU for tune-up purpose. Found many from 1994~1996 on the internet at good price too.
Thing is, how can I be sure the computer I am going to get will suit my 1996 850 T-5 after it's been reprogram or it is programable at all?? Seems like different years have different Bosch # and Volvo's own PN. What codes should I compare between ECUs so I will have no trouble in the future?? All inputs are very welcomed...thanks!!
