Mech left off air intake hose S70T5 S70 1999

Had the S70T5 in for oil, trans & powersteering flush & filters, etc about 900 miles back; Been out of town, and found msg to call the mech when I got back. Car did not seen to have its usual spriteliness on the highway. Yesterday, checking the oil & trans fluid, noticed the hose(?) from the air intake area atop the radiator to the bottom of the air filter box was absent. Quaere:
Could this be a contributor to the car being somewhat sluggish? Sucking hot air in from engine compartment instead of cooler air in from outside? (ambient temp was from 50F to 80F, average run of about 65 miles on interstate) What else should I look for when I get the car back to the mech?
