GAS LEAK 850 1996

Filled up on friday, smelled gas under car later that night, didnt think much about it,saturday morning I noticed a gas spot on my driveway and when I looked under the left side of the gas tank from behind the car I saw gas drippings.I immedialtely brought the car to my volvo independent,he put it up in the air and said I have a gas leak and I am not to drive the car.
I have a VIP VOLVO WARRANTY so I had the car towed to the dealer and I am wating for the diagnosis.
The car is a sedan and has 77,000 miles on it.Thank goodness I have the VIP warranty!!
Should the gas tank go after 77,000 miles? My independant says it is very rare.
What do you think?and will the dealer automatically replace the gas tank?
What happens to the 3\4 full tank of gas that is in there?
Please advise.
