850 Remanufactured Steering Rack Stiff?!?!?! 850 1995

I just installed a remanufactured steering rack in my 95' 850. I have bled the system and am using recommended ATF fluid. The rack has been in my car a few days and it seems stiff. I used to be able to drive with my pinky but now it feels as if the front tires are a little low. Will the rack "break-in" or have I just wasted a Saturday installing a defective rack? The steering is not overly difficult but definatley more stiff than before. Also, I have heard of some who put synthetic fluid instead of ATF - why? If it wasn't for my wife I would have just stuck with my 122's!!! Any information is appreciated!
