Opinions on Michelin Pilot SX tires 850

I'm running Michelin Pilot SX tires on my 1996 850 Turbo wagon. 205/50-16, 72,000 kilometers on the car, about 6,000 on the tires. They're wearing well, but they seem to be a bit loud. After you hit about 30-40 km/h there's a humming / whirring noise that increases in pitch as the speed goes up. I had the car in the shop to check it out, they found the half-shaft bearing was starting to go, but could find nothing else wrong. They said the tires were hard and had lots of road noise.
Has anyone else had any experience with these tires? Or this problem with other tires? I'm happy with the tires otherwise. They grip well enough and as I said, they seem to be wearing well.
Thanks in advance.
