850 blower motor problems 850 1996

The blower resistor pack has failed for a second time on my 96 855. I'm starting to suspect a bad blower motor, but it has shown no symptoms. No binding or squealing, and it still blows fine on speed 4 (which bypasses the resisitor). Is this the way the blower typically goes? Anybody seen similar problems? What sort of current should it be drawing when good? I assume the bearings are sealed on these blowers, or can they be lubed?
Thanks for any guidance here!
