Mann oil filters vs.Volvo 850

Recently, I took my '94 850 turbo wagon into my independent Volvo mechanic to
have some minor work done & he noticed the Mann oil filter on the car(I had just
changed the oil). He advised me to always use Volvo oil filters, whether purchased at his shop or a dealer, as the Mann filters do not have the valve in
them that prevents the return of oil to the crankcase when the engine is stopped. I was under the impression that Mann made the oil filters for Volvo
& were just as good. Any comments? I plan on keeping the car for a long time
& do not mind paying $10/filter at the dealer if this helps prolong engine life.
