Sunroof Rattle - time to get this sucker nailed down once and for all 850 1995

It's been a rough week. The nose got scraped and the passenger side caught
its first ever parking lot door ding. I guess I'm glad I'm driving a 7 yr old
car!

Anyway, my sunroof has rattled for perhaps 2 years now when closed. But mine
definitely does not seem to be the sliding interior cover. And as the felt
ages and the moonroof no longer fits quite so snugly in the roof opening, the
annoyance is becoming more frequent.

Whenever I hear mine rattling (only) as I'm going over rough pavement when it
is fully closed, if I touch the switch for just an instant and cause the rear
to tilt up, say, 1 mm, the rattling stops!
And when it returns, pulling the
roof back down to its untilted closed position will again silence it (again
temporarily -- until the next bump in the road causes the roof to sink down
against whatever would push it up if I tilted it up slightly...). So it seems
as if it is whatever controls the tilt angle has a bit of slop/play in it and
is permitting metal to metal contact (now that some felt has worn away?)

Anyway this is what I will be pursuing soon; can anyone elighten me as to how
and where the tilt angle (height of the rear of the sunroof) is maintained, and
any suggestions as to what type of material to use to fill up (cushion) whatever
gap/slop I'll find? (I'll try to bring back some good images for you...)

(If I slide my inner cover closed, it does help muffle the rattle.)
