Sure sounds like the PNP switch. The next time this happens and the car won't start or starts moving in 3rd gear (limp home mode),try shutting the engine off and turn the ignition switch to the 2nd position and shift the transmission from Park to Drive about 20-30 times. This is supposed to clean the PNP switch contacts. Eventually you'll have to replace the switch.
