Full size spare and tire rotation

What's a "take-off tire"? I hadn't thought of the fact that I would need another wheel too. But, no biggie, I was planning on getting spare wheels for the winter tires anyways. I read that you save back the cost of steel wheels in about three years of not having to have them remounted every time you change from winter to summer tires and back. And that it saves corrosion on the alloy wheels.

I guess you don't put the spare into the rotation. Doesn't that make it awfully easy to forget to keep it full of air and in good shape?
