How much is enough?

I don't think the engine should vibrate enough for you to notice it. Mine doesn't at all... even when I'm under the hood while she's idling.

I would suggest checking the spark plugs and maybe the vaccum elbows. A tank of a quality fuel injector cleaner can take care of it too sometimes.

As far as worn engine mounts... have someone sit in the car foot on brake.. put it in reverse and press on the gas... watch for excessive movement of the engine.... same for putting it in drive. If they're bad you should know right away. I had a taurus with a bad mount where in reverse it would actually tip forward and knock into the radiator.
