Common problem.

Visit Volvospeed.com repairs section - it shows you how to fix (essentially, you apply pressure on the wiper arm to bend it in towards the winshield.

That will work a few times.

I recently replaced the arm for about $36 (volvoparts.com ask for Dan).

This is a repair you should be able to handle easily.
