Alternator issue? 850 1995

My 95' 854 Turbo has been making an unusual high pitched noise that seems to be coming from the area of the alternator but I am not absolutely sure that it is the alternator. I noticed that there are small pieces of copper wire (I assume from the brushes in the alternator) on the block itself but have not noticed any problems (caused by a faulty alternator, battery light, ect.) that would indicate a problem except for the noise.

Has anyone experienced this? Could the noise be coming from what I assume is the power steering pump that is mounted above the alternator?

Are the copper wires normal? I would assume not but am not sure.

Could the 100w amp that I had installed a few months ago be causing the alternator to be over worked? I would assume not on that as well but I thought that I would pose the question.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Steve
