Body side molding & bumpers V70-XC70

Hi,
I am looking at purchasing a Cross Country and have noticed a few things that have bothered me about the molding/bumpers. They seem to either stain or fade badly (at least on the ones I have looked at) and even more disturbing, on the 2001up models, the molding actually appears to be pulling away from the side of the car! You can actually see a gap between the molding and the sheet metal with bits of glue in there. Also, I looked at a new limited edition 2002 XC (Ocean edition or something) and the side molding was all scratched. On a $42k car!
What is going on? Is this something I should be concerned with? I really want a XC, but it seems my 13 year old 740 has better trim.
