tire rub on outside!? suspension? 850

hi guys. i just put a new set of kumho's(225/45 r17) on my volans and am having terrible problems with rub on plastic well liner, and have burnt some of it off on the edge of the fender! this is troubling because i'm using the same size tires as i replaced except that they were bridgestone potenzas. when i stood one of the newly mounted tires next to the worn ones they were only about a 1/2in. taller at the most. i drive a 94' 855 T-5 with 97k and have never replaced the struts or shocks(nivo-craps). the rub happens when i brake hard, take an off/on ramp at speed (70+ mph), or hit a bump at speed. is it time for new shocks and struts? i don't see how these new tires can be the problem as they are the same size as the old ones. please help.
