Goodbye S70

I agree with you on your assessment of Volvos. I own a 98 S70 GLT with 90k miles. Would definitely NOT buy another Volvo. Too many problems. Would rank their reliability way below Japanese cars and below American cars. I have owned over 40 cars in the last 40 years and this is the worst for reliability. Consumer Reports has it right when it lists this car as one to avoid. Even my 1973 Vega had less problems. That being said, the car is fun to drive except for the stiff ride. I guess that is the price you pay for owning a Volvo. For the time being, I am stuck with the car since it has such a low trade in value and is very difficult to sell outright due to its poor reputation. My only saving grace is that I do as much of the repair work as I can on the car and buy parts mail order. I am getting to know the parts guys at Tasca Volvo in Mass. really well. Same with a local foreign car specialist who does the work I am not willing to do. Live and learn!! I read that the average family income of new Volvo buyers in $204,000. You need that kind of income to keep these cars running!
