Ron,
The car was overheating with all the warnings going off. The overheating was caused by the radiator fan motor which is being recalled. At her last schd maintence she asked her home town dealer to perform the fan motor recall, but they declined because their dealership was in the process of being transfered to a Lincoln dealership, and could not give her date when they would be able to do the repair.
The dealership in Pleasanton, CA did the fan repair but also got her for another $400 for her airconditioning system saying it needed additional work. When they said they did not order the correct part she retrieved the car and drove it to her home town dealer. The home town dealer said there was no problem with the airconditoner.
This little event cost her a towing bill, hotel night, rental car for a week plus several days worth of wasted (professional) time.
This was her second new Volvo. Completely maintained by the dealer, including putting on new tires, etc. She has almost paid for these cars twice in maintenance and repairs.
I think she is finally ready to go look at some Lexus models.
I originally talked her into getting a Volvo, because I own two of them, which I bought for safety reasons. I still believe they are tops in crash-ability and very good at avoiding an accident. However, I have also come to believe that reliability is also a factor in safety. Leaving you stranded, having to visit repair shops too often, driving rental cars, and the frustration and stress that goes with is dangerous.
Volvo logic, where has it gone?
