Switching to synthetic 850

Hi guys,

I dont want to start a debate on which brand of synthetic oil is the best, which one is not a real synthetic... My preocupation is that my volvo 850 94 10 valves has 228 000 km now and it has always run on dino. The engine is not leaking except for 2 cam seal (pulley side of the engine) that I will have to change very soon. I heard by some mechanics that switching to synthetic while using dino in the past is not a good thing to do... Maybe someone can put some light on this. But dont forget, we dont want to start any oil war here... This is a very specific question.

Thanks for the help.

Bruno
