Replacing Front Struts 850 1996

Hello.
I am a proud owner of a 96 850 Wagon (Non Turbo) and a 98 Volvo S 70.
The ride on my 850 Wagon has been less than desirable on rough and bumpy roads and is sometimes really bad!!! I have replaced all 4 tires with brand new Bridestone Turanza LS H tires and also the rear shocks whcih has helped the ride quality somewhat.

I would REALLY like to replace the front struts on my 850 Wagon with aftermarket struts. I spend an entire morning looking into suitable replacements and the closest i came to was Bilstein shocks. When i spoke to the sales rep at Bilstein they informed me that their touring shocks were very close to the ride quality of the OEM shocks!!! So it does not pay for me to spend $500 (labor and parts) to replace the struts and then not get a better ride out of them.

Does any one have ANY suggestions or ideas. At this point i am open to anything. I dont want to sell my wagon, but i have started to plan my trips the long way around on roads that are well carpeted!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
