A/C refrigerant: can upside down or not? 850 1996

So I bought an Interdynamics R-134 A/C re-charge kit last night from Pep Boys, and get this: the instructions on the can say to hold the can upside down when releasing refrigerant into the system, while the paper insert that came with the same kit says to hold the can right side up. What's with that?? Arrgh!

From reading the archives it *seems* the general consensus is to hold the can right side up, but I'd like to get everyone's opinion on that. Thanks!
