Broken Radio 850 1993

I've got a 1993 850 with the stock sc-810 radio and changer. I just had some work done and they evidently disconnected my battery--because now it is looking for the code. When I enter the code(which I am 90% sure is correct) I get 3 strange letters on the display--it looks like it is the APE from tape with some of the lines missing. The only thing I can do it attempt to enter the code again--3 trys and it locks up. Previsouly when I had to enter the code it has worked fine. There is a cassette stuck in the player--could this cause the fault? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bill
