occasional 'Miss' V70-XC70 1998

OK-98 V70R AWD wagon. 65k miles. At 60K, in about 30 to 40 minutes driving you may feel 2 to 3 times an occasional "miss" while cruising at 60MPH or while idling the engine would maybe "stubble" for 1/2 a second then idle smoothly.
I then did (cause it was due) a new cap/rotor/plugs. All seemed fine for the last 4K miles but now I occasionally get that quick little "miss/stumble" at idle. I have "sniffed" around the engine while it is idling and I notice a "spark jumping" type tick sound consitently coming from the coil. Coil wire is nice and seated! Is the coil going bad? Why would a coil make noise?Suggestions?
