occasional 'Miss' V70-XC70 1998

There is a service bulletin for this. It applies to 98 S/V70's. I had this EXACT same problem with my '98 S70 turbo. The dealer upgraded the ECU software and the problem has been cured ever since. This problem was very unsettling when driving and it was great to have it go away. Be aware that not all dealers know about this and two of them told me it did not apply to my car until I insisted they show me on the computer that I was not a match.

Here is some info on the bulletin:
Reference: TP 2308202, Section 2(23,28), Motronic 4.4 (MFI) Engine Management System, 850 1996-Cars involved:

Model Factory Chassis no.
V70 2 432000-533259

Good luck!
