What if I don't replace my airpump? 850 1997

I ran my car for 6 months with a bad air pump. After several months, the car was getting very poor mileage. Replaced the air pump and check valve. Did not solve the problem. Chek engine light indicated that the oxygen sensor was bad. Replaced the sensor( it had a lot of carbon buildup--perhaps due to the bad air pump?). Car runs great now. Bottom line is that the car will run with a faulty air pump. However, it may affect the engine fuel controls causing the car to run richer. This can cause other problems.
