I don't know about direct-wiring, but you might consider the solution I use as a compromise between the awful RF and direct-wire. If you don't use the cassette player (like me), you can attach your RCA outputs to a cassette adapter, run the wire for the adapter through the back of the head unit, and leave it in semi-permanently. The sound quality is pretty good, far superior to RF, with just a little noise. Just a thought.
