Hello all, just came back from the car lot - purchased a blue/green 1998 S70 with automatic, leather, sunroof and possibly some other options. 40,500 miles and pretty darn clean and tight, Volvo CPO warranty. Paid $15,995 and also got a generous trade in credit. I guess the sagging US economy is good for something after all!
Anyhow, as I'm the car nut of the house and Wifey could care less about cars, so I am going to be the one visiting this board.
Backgrond:
I'm 32 and live in Dallas, have been a car nut since I could read. My own car is a loaded but un-modified 1998 Aspen Silver BMW 528i 5-speed. I love that car, and do all the maintenence myself including the 30,000 and recently the 60,000 mile servicings (BMW calls these "Inspection I/II" and they cost $500 and $1000 respectively) - yeowch, that's one reason I do it myself. The other reason is I enjoy working on cars, and whether it be a brake job or just an oil change DIY is the only way to know the job is done right. I'm hoping Volvo parts cost less than BMW parts for the 5-series as the BMW stuff is pricey: brake pads $100 for fronts, rotors $100 each, oil is full synthetic, oil filter $11 ... and the list goes on and on.
Anyone in Dallas is always welcome to visit my Lake Highlands home and can use my garage and tools; I always enjoy meeting and turning wrenches with fellow car nuts.
Anyhow, I look forward to learning about the S70 and Volvos in general. It sure seems as if the owners are much NICER than BMW owners from what I've read on your board so far. :)
After we take delivery of the S70 on Wednesday I'll try to take some pictures and post them, as well as try to determine exactly what model it actually is and with what options.
Here's looking forward to lots of light bulbs,
Jason F.
