OT: funny Brit car story S70 1998

(From another person on the BMW E39 board on Roadfly)

Had an old POS MGB GT when I was a kid that would die on me all the time (implied by saying MG I know). Had the two 6 volt batteries under the rear seat and was positive ground. One time when it died had a tow truck came out to give me a jump. Old crusty driver... knew everything... wouldn't listen to me about it being positive ground. He hooked up the cables and let it go for a few minutes. After a little while you could smell that gas bubbling out of the battery, and again I told him that it was hooked up wrong. Still wouldn't listen.

Not sure whether he finally smelled it too or if it was because I kept on him, eventually he said "OK smartass, we'll do it your way." He leaned in the car to switch the cables and I guess made a spark when he did... I swear you could literally see the windows buldge out a little when it went *WHHHOOOOMMMPPPHHH!!!* Guy backed out of the car and his hair and beard were smoking like in a cartoon. lol Lucky he wasn't really hurt. He just grabbed the cables and threw them in his truck and drove off cursing. ;)
