Regular VS High Octane. Worth it or waste of money??? 850

Ok.

Now i know i am stirring a hornest nest with this one.

My regular 850 Wagon non turbo requires the regular 87 octane gas. But when I bought it 10 months ago, I started using the 97 premium octane gas. BUT I have now gone back to the regular 87 octane gas.

I dont feel any difference in the performance when i used the premium gas and now but would like to know some opinions out there.

So here is my question

1: Was i throwing money away when i started pumping the 97 Premium octane gas??. In my opinion the higher grade gas has more detergents additives etc for the motor, and fuel injection systems BUT does it do any good on a car that only needs the regular octane gas.

2: Will switching back now cause more damange or any damage to the fuel system of the volvo????

Any/All input is appreciated.
