Auto climate controle self-adjustment?? 850

in the Haynes Manual this operation is descibed but there seems to be a few things missing, The manual does not say to hook up the test lead to the diagnodtic unit. I am sure this is needed and then at what stage do you remove the test lead. The manual also states that the led starts to flash after you press the button 4 times, mine never does it just comes on once.

I called the Haynes people and the guy there in charge of the Volvo manuals doas not have a clue, about any thing!! I am never buying a Haynes manual again!!
