self regulating check after 30 minutes? S70 1998

I have been going crazy, hearing this "rhythmic ping-ing" noise in my car. It happens after I've been driving a while (20-30 minutes) and I hear it when I come to a full stop.

After a year and a half I have finally been given an explanation. Tell me if this sounds right (as a woman, I'm never sure if I'm being told a line to appease me).

After 30 minutes or so the car does a "self check" to make sure everything is working well etc.
