Query on timing belt/aux failure 850

It is a 1996 855. I had ALL recommended service done since day one at the intervals recommended. The timing belt was less than 10,000 miles old. The auxiliary belt was replaced 5000 miles ago, since the other belt had a gouge.

According to the dealer who has the car, the cause of the failure was that the bracket for the alternator was position at the wrong angle, this led to the auxiliary belt slipping off, which destroyed the timing belt.

The car has 81,000 miles on it and the timing belt was replaced at 72,000.

Thanks,

Joe
